En ville sans ma voiture kicks off its 11th edition in downtown Montreal!

On Friday, September 20th Montreal will celebrate the 11th annual, En ville sans ma voiture. Organised by the Agence métropolitaine de Transport (AMT) and celebrated in more than 2150 cities around the world, the event strives to “inform the population of the damaging effects of the abusive use of cars on the urban quality of life” (AMT).

Starting at midnight on September 19th, a perimeter will be created downtown, forbidding access to cars. From 9:30 AM to 7:00PM, Square-Victoria and McGill streets, between Viger and Saint-Jacques, will be closed to cars for the whole day, as well as Saint-Antoine Street, between University and Saint-Alexandre, . The 19 districts of Montreal and the 83 cities in Greater Montreal Area have also decided to follow the AMT’s example and close a few sections of their streets as well.

In addition, to giving away 75 000 public transit passes (available on their website), En ville sans ma voiture also offers a number of activities and conferences that will take place over four days, starting Tuesday, September 17th in the evening, until Friday, September 20th. The spokesperson for this event, singer Louis-Jean Cormier from Karkwa, will hit the stage for a free performance with his musicians, at noon on Friday, September 20th.
