Have a voice – and a vote!
Several SSMU Committees have seats for students who are not on Councilors. We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible students to fill these seats. Joining a committee is a great way to get involved and make decisions affecting the McGill student body. The following Committees are looking for members-at-large:
• Clubs and Services Committee
This committee approves all new clubs under the SSMU. It meets every other Thursday from 1:30-3:30 pm.
• Finance Committee
This committee allocates the Green Fund, Clubs Fund, and Campus Life Fund to clubs and other on-campus groups. Meetings are long at the beginning of the semester when allocating club fund, but lessen to 2 hours every week or every other week.
• Student Society Programming Network
This fun committee plans SSMU social events such as 4 Floors. We are looking for students to help plan events, organize staff, and volunteer their time at these events.
• Presidential Affairs Committee
This year, the Presidential Affairs Committee will play a very central role in reforming the legislative council of the Society. This group, under the supervision of the President, will be helping to complete the Internal Audit of the Committees of Council (IACC), which will completely reform the committee structure. This is an excellent opportunity for students wishing to gain legislative experience at SSMU. The committee will likely meet every two weeks, and will require some outside research. Knowledge of SSMU an asset, but not required.
• Constitutional Review Committee
The mandate of the Constitutional Review Committee includes, but is not limited to: assisting the President in ensuring the long term integrity of the Society with regards to its Constitution and Bylaws, to review the Constitution and By-laws from time to time to assess whether it adequately serves the needs of the Society, and to present recommendations on Constitutional Bylaw reform to the Executive Committee and Council when necessary.
Interested applicants should email a letter of intent explaining which committee they want to sit on and why and a CV to cpm@ssmu.mcgill.ca by Friday, November 6th. Selected applicants will be contacted.
