CKUT’s Summer Radio Camp is entering it’s third year and gives youth ages 10 – 17 the opportunity to learn the ins-and-outs of radio production and produce their own live-to-air radio programme on CKUT 90.3 FM.
From June 27 to August 19 CKUT is offering one-week camps for 10-13 year olds and new specialized two-week camps for 14 – 17 year olds. In both camps participants will get the full radio experience using CKUT’s recording equipment and studios, and learning all of the basic radio production skills.
The first week kicks off with campers hosting a live music show on CKUT on Monday afternoon. Over the rest of the week campers will write, produce and act in a radio play, conduct interviews and create short documentaries, learn to dj and at the end of the week will produce, tech, and host a live radio show on CKUT 90.3FM! .
During the second week of the new 2-week camps 14-17 year olds will specialize in journalism and documentary or music and sound art. Those specializing in journalism and documentary will create their own radio documentary features, meet documentary-makers, advance their audio editing skills, learn to use sound and music to tell a story, and take feild trips around Montreal to record stories. Those in the music and sound art specialization will advance their DJ skills, build electronic musical instruments, meet local musicians and sound artists, record a live music session, and take part in collective sound improvisations.
CKUT has paired up with the McGill Conservatory Day Camp of Performing Arts (aka: Artemusik) for the CKUT Radio Camp. Registration will be handled by Artemusik although all workshops will be hosted by and take place at CKUT Radio, 3647 University Street.
