Are you interested in volunteering to help plan for a student-run initiative? The SSMU Executive Team of 2011 – 2012 is excited to finally start a very special project. Historically, students have demanded that its student union work towards the creation of a student-run food initiative in the SSMU Building. This has been consistently demonstrated by students through protests, at General Assemblies, and at Council. These clear massive campaigns have been tirelessly worked on by many students on campus, yet no concrete action has been taken by the Students’ Society. Therefore, the SSMU Executive Team has decided to form a working group to pave the way for a student-run initiative.
How do we plan on achieving this goal? During the summer, the SSMU plans on forming a working group to develop a strong front for the upcoming year. This working group will assist the SSMU in its initiative to plan for a student-run cafe in the long-run. The working group will be responsible for researching past operations undertaken by the SSMU, analysis of other student unions that have student-run initiatives, creation of a business plan, getting in touch with other student unions that have student-run initiatives, and the setting of all the groundwork in anticipation of next semester.
If you are interested in being part of this working group and volunteering for the SSMU over the summer, and perhaps over the next academic year, please e-mail Shyam Patel, the Vice-President Finance & Operations at fops@ssmu.mcgill.ca.
