SSMU Statement regarding update to the University Centre closure

SSMU Statement regarding update to the University Centre closure

To All McGill Students,

Earlier this week, the SSMU was notified that McGill’s renovation project at the University Centre has experienced further delays and may not be completed until December 2019. We share this news with you today in an ongoing effort to remain as transparent as possible. We recognize that the absence of our building continues to pose significant issues for the SSMU and the students we serve. Without a doubt, to go another semester without a permanent home will be challenging. However, we will do our best to ensure that all SSMU student groups currently located in 3471 Peel and 680 Sherbrooke will remain in their allocated spaces until December. We will continue to work with our partners across campus to find alternative spaces for our clubs and we will strive to continue to provide a high level of service.

Over the summer we will be adding additional staff and improving communications. We will be expanding the menstrual hygiene program and developing our off-campus resources. We will continue accepting space requests from clubs and services through our online form and will be working with McGill to meet requests as quickly as possible.

We understand the frustration that this causes and we appreciate your continued cooperation. If you have any questions about the project, please email construction.feedback@mcgill.ca. Also, you can keep up to date by visiting the building closure page on the SSMU website. Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,
Bryan Buraga, President
Billy Kawasaki, Vice-President (Student Life)
Samuel Haward, Vice-President (Finance)
Sanchi Bhalla, Vice-President (Internal Affairs)
Madeline Wilson, Vice-President (University Affairs)
Adam Gwiazda-Amsel, Vice-President (External Affairs)
