Empowering students to fight for people over profit. Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM) is a global network of students that fight to make life-saving medicines affordable and accessible for all. Since universities develop many of the medical technologies that end up in the hands of pharmaceutical companies, students have the power to encourage universities to adopt equitable licensing practices (we’ve done it!). This year, McGill’s UAEM chapter is (1) Leaning into our social media presence to educate our followers about open science, (2) Further developing the userbase of our donations tracker website, (3) leading the charge of ensuring that McGill is abiding by the global access licensing agreement they signed in 2019 by obtaining progress reports from the McGill technology transfer office (TTO), and (4) Continuing to be a welcoming and collaborative club that makes creative activism both educational and fun!Empowering students to fight for people over profit
