Support Services Available

Student groups across the McGill community are banding together to provide support to any and all students who felt in any way harmed- emotionally, physically, or otherwise- by the incidents on the evening of Thursday 10 November.

For students seeking a safe and supportive environment in which to discuss what happened SSMU will be hosting an informal drop-in tea-and-listening session in the Student Lounge (first floor of SSMU) on Sunday, November 13, from 2– 5 PM. All are welcome; no journalists or press will be allowed; no names will be taken and all discussions will remain confidential.

For students seeking support by phone Nightline is operating during its normal hours, from 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM, 7 days a week. Nightline responders are trained in active listening and provide referral services to all students and the community. The McGill Nightline Number is (514)398-MAIN (6246).

The Sexual Assault Centre of McGill Students’ Society (SACOMSS) will also be running a phone line service. SACOMSS volunteers are trained to provide support for survivors of sexual assault, however in light of Thursday’s events will offer general active listening. The SACOMSS support line is (514)398-8500. This line will be available from 12 noon to midnight today, November 11. The line will also be available 10am-9pm on Saturday, 1-5pm on Sunday, and 6pm-12am on Monday. Check back here as these hours may be further expanded.

For students seeking support in person Drop-in services will also be available in the SACOMSS office in the Shatner building, room B27 on Saturday (10am-6pm), Sunday (1-5pm) and Monday (12-3pm). Hours are subject to change, so please check http://www.facebook.com/sacomss for more information.

Student Advocacy Representation for you is available; we recommend that if you were hurt during last night’s incidents, you document your injuries and experiences (take photos and write down what happened). Click here to contact McGill Legal Information Clinic Student Advocacy Program.
