Press Release: Resignation of SSMU Vice-President (Internal)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
October 1, 2015

The Students’ Society of McGill University regrets to announce the vacancy of the Vice-President (Internal) position, effective immediately.

The Vice-President (Internal), a member of both Legislative Council and the Executive Committee, is responsible for managing the communications and publications of the Society and spearheading Society programming. Projects and tasks managed by the Vice-President (Internal) include the production of the Old McGill Yearbook, the dissemination of the SSMU Listserv, and the planning and execution of large-scale events including Orientation Week, 4Floors, and Faculty Olympics.

Lola Baraldi, elected as the Vice-President (Internal) for a one year term in March of 2015, tendered her resignation from this role on October 1, 2015 due to personal circumstances. During Lola’s tenure she has executed a successful Orientation Week and made substantial contributions to the Society as a whole. Lola will be greatly missed as a member of the team and SSMU greatly thanks her for her service to the Society.

The Vice-President (Internal) position will be opened to nominations for consideration by the members in a by-election. The candidate elected in the by-election will be in place for a term running January 1, 2016 – May 31, 2016. Elections SSMU will be issuing communications about procedures for the upcoming by-election and releasing nomination packages shortly.

In the interim, all tasks and responsibilities formerly executed by the Vice-President (Internal) will be delegated among the Vice-Presidents and relevant permanent staff members. The contingency plan has been designed such that all tasks can be completed in the interim with the least disruption in services to students.

Questions regarding the interim task delegation for the Vice-President (Internal) can be directed to Kareem Ibrahim, President of the Students’ Society of McGill University. Questions regarding the logistics of the upcoming by-election can be directed to Elections SSMU.
