VOTE YES – NOVEMBER 14th–20th
Our Fall referendum is here, and we’re asking for your help! Vote YES to our fee increase:
- It will ensure we can keep services free, pay fair wages to our student workers to account for the rising cost of living, and improve our operations!
- Help us keep education accessible! Our staff and executives are working to mobilize students and fight Quebec’s proposed tuition hikes. Voting yes means providing us with more resources to combat these discriminatory policies on the local and provincial level.
- SSMU runs tons of services providing free/subsidized resources to students. With rising costs of living, it takes more to keep (and improve) our current offerings!
- A huge part of SSMU is our full-time and part-time unionized staff. The SSMUnion (CUPE Local 5447) fights for fair wages and benefits for everyone working for SSMU. They’re the representatives for students in part-time positions, who work to bring you services like free lunches, on-campus safety services, free menstrual products, and everything else we do here at SSMU!
A base fee increase can help us to offer fair wages to staff and offer well-paid on-campus jobs.
Why is a fee increase necessary?
- SSMU’s base fee hasn’t been raised since 2019, and inflation in Quebec is at an all-time high.
- Our current fees are below average compared to other student union fees across Canada, and we represent a significantly larger student population than most schools we looked at in our research.
- In order to keep our operations going and make them even better for our students, we need your help!
